What the editor is
A website editor in your browser, for people who'd rather not touch files. You sign in with your git platform, and every change is saved, reviewable and reversible.
The editor lets you work on your site without a text editor or a terminal: write pages, upload pictures, change your colors, and publish, with a live preview of everything.

How it's different
- No accounts of its own. You sign in with your git platform: GitHub, Gitea, Forgejo, GitLab or Bitbucket. What you can see and change is exactly what the platform already lets you.
- Nothing goes live by accident. Everything you save goes onto a draft. The live site doesn't change until you publish.
- Every change is kept. Each save is a commit in your site's history, with your name on it. Anything can be looked at and undone.
- It never runs on your web server. The editor changes your site only by saving to its repository. Your public site stays plain files, with no login page for anyone to attack.
What you can do in it

- Pages: write in Markdown or visually, fill in sections with forms, and see the page as you type. See Edit a page.
- Look: pick colors for light and dark mode, the font, the corners and your logo. See Look.
- Pictures: upload them; they're resized and cleaned for you. See Pictures.
- Review and publish: ask someone to look first, then publish, but only if the checks pass. See Review and publish.
- Quick posts: a banner, a news post, an event or a front-page change, published in one go. See Quick posts.
- History: every published change, and undo. See History and undo.
- And: forms, redirects, privacy and statistics, search engine settings, and the raw files for anything without a form.
What you need to run it
- Your site in a repository on a git platform.
- A sign-in app on that platform, so the editor can ask people to sign in. See Set up sign-in.
- HotDog CMS and git, on your computer or a server. See Run the editor.
For one person on their own computer, that's ten minutes. For a team, run it on a server: see Running it for a team.
