Install on macOS
Download HotDog CMS for your Mac, check it, and let macOS run it. About five minutes.
What you need
- A Mac, with Apple silicon (M1 and later) or an Intel processor.
- The Terminal app (in Applications → Utilities).
git, which Installing git covers. macOS offers to install it the first time you typegit.
1. Find out which download you need
Open Terminal, type this and press Enter:
uname -m
- If it says
arm64, your Mac has Apple silicon: you needhotdog-cms-darwin-arm64. - If it says
x86_64, it's an Intel Mac: you needhotdog-cms-darwin-amd64.
("darwin" is the name of the system underneath macOS.)
2. Download it
# Apple silicon (arm64)
curl -LO https://git.coffeylabs.org/coffey-labs/hotdog-cms/releases/latest/download/hotdog-cms-darwin-arm64
# Intel (x86_64)
curl -LO https://git.coffeylabs.org/coffey-labs/hotdog-cms/releases/latest/download/hotdog-cms-darwin-amd64
# Both need this too
curl -LO https://git.coffeylabs.org/coffey-labs/hotdog-cms/releases/latest/download/SHA256SUMS
3. Check the download
shasum -a 256 --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS
You should see your file's name followed by OK. If it says FAILED, delete the file and download it again.
4. Install it
Use the name of the file you downloaded:
mv hotdog-cms-darwin-arm64 hotdog-cms
chmod +x hotdog-cms
sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/bin
sudo mv hotdog-cms /usr/local/bin/
sudo asks for your Mac's password. Nothing appears as you type it; press Enter when you're done.
5. Let macOS run it
Downloaded with curl, as above, it runs straight away. If you downloaded it in your browser instead, macOS may refuse the first time, saying it "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified". Either:
- open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and choose Open Anyway next to
hotdog-cms; or - tell macOS you trust it with one command:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /usr/local/bin/hotdog-cms
6. Check it works
hotdog-cms version
It prints the version, the license and where the source code is. You're ready: start your first site.
