Install on Linux
Download HotDog CMS, check it's the real thing, and put it where your terminal can find it. About five minutes.
What you need
- A Linux computer or server, on an Intel or AMD processor (most PCs and servers) or an ARM one (a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, many cloud servers).
- A terminal.
git, which most Linux systems already have. Installing git covers it if yours doesn't.
1. Find out which download you need
Type this and press Enter:
uname -m
- If it says
x86_64, you needhotdog-cms-linux-amd64. - If it says
aarch64orarm64, you needhotdog-cms-linux-arm64.
2. Download it
Pick the line for your computer and run it. It downloads the newest version, and the list of checksums used in the next step.
# Intel or AMD (x86_64)
curl -LO https://git.coffeylabs.org/coffey-labs/hotdog-cms/releases/latest/download/hotdog-cms-linux-amd64
# ARM (aarch64)
curl -LO https://git.coffeylabs.org/coffey-labs/hotdog-cms/releases/latest/download/hotdog-cms-linux-arm64
# Both need this too
curl -LO https://git.coffeylabs.org/coffey-labs/hotdog-cms/releases/latest/download/SHA256SUMS
You can also download them from the releases page in your browser.
3. Check the download
This makes sure the file arrived whole and is the one Coffey Labs published:
sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS
You should see your file's name followed by OK. If it says FAILED, delete the file and download it again.
4. Install it
Rename it to hotdog-cms, let it run, and move it to a folder your terminal looks in for programs. Use the name of the file you downloaded:
mv hotdog-cms-linux-amd64 hotdog-cms
chmod +x hotdog-cms
sudo mv hotdog-cms /usr/local/bin/
sudo asks for your password, because /usr/local/bin belongs to the whole system.
No sudo? Put it in your own folder instead:
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin && mv hotdog-cms ~/.local/bin/. Most Linux systems already look there; ifhotdog-cmsisn't found afterwards, log out and back in.
5. Check it works
hotdog-cms version
It prints the version, the license and where the source code is. You're ready: start your first site.
