Publishing

Put the finished site on a web server, by hand or automatically.

  1. How publishing works

Publishing puts your finished site where people can visit it. There are two ways to do it, and several places it can go. Here's how to choose.

  2. Publish to a folder

When the web server is on the same computer, publish straight into its folder. One command, and the new site replaces the old in one step.

  3. Publish over SSH

Send the site from your computer, or your pipeline, to a server you reach over SSH. Only changed files travel, and the new site goes live in one step.

  4. Publish as a container

Package the site with a small web server into a container image, for Docker, Podman, Kubernetes or a container hosting service.

  5. Your platform's pipeline

Let your git platform check every proposed change and publish every accepted one, by itself. One command writes the file it needs.

  6. The pull agent

A small program on your web server that watches your site's repository and publishes every change itself. Nothing connects in to your server.

  7. Web server settings

Any web server can serve a HotDog site. Here are ready-to-use settings for nginx, Caddy and Apache, including shared hosting.

  8. Previews of every branch

See every draft exactly as it will be published, each at its own address, before it goes live.

  9. Search engines

Help search engines find your site, prove it's yours in their webmaster tools, and tell them the moment a page changes.
