Front matter

Every setting a page can have at its top, between the two --- lines.

Front matter is YAML, between two lines of --- at the very top of a page:

---
title: A new oven
date: 2026-10-08
summary: The new oven is in, so we open earlier.
tags: [News]
---

The page itself.

Every page

Key What it is
title The page's name. Required for pages search engines see.
summary One sentence for search results, lists and link previews (description works too).
date When it was written, 2026-10-08. Sorts collections.
updated When it last changed meaningfully.
tags A list of subjects: [News, Opening hours].
image, image_alt The link-preview picture, and what it shows.
draft true keeps it off the published site.
publish_at Leave it off the live site until this time (2026-06-01 07:00, in the site's time zone).
noindex true asks search engines not to list it, and leaves it out of the sitemap.
layout Which layout to use, such as landing for a page of sections.
sections The sections the page is built from (see Sections).
form A form from forms/ to show on the page, by name.
weight A number for ordering, in collections sorted by weight: lower comes first.

Addresses

Key What it is
slug The last part of the address, instead of the file's name: slug: hours makes content/opening-hours.md live at /hours/.
url The whole address, for a page outside a collection: url: /visit/ (must start with /).
redirect_to Make this page a redirect to another address.

Events

On pages in an events collection (see Events):

Key What it is
start When it starts. Required. 2026-11-07 18:00, or a date for all day.
end When it ends.
location Where.
link Tickets or sign-up.
status cancelled or postponed.

Pages kept as HTML

Key What it is
format html for a page written in HTML instead of Markdown. Imports set it where Markdown would lose something.

Anything else you add is available to templates as .Params, such as .Params.subtitle.
